For our survival guide, we researched the country of Mexico, and completed multiple survival guides as a group. Each survival guide consisted of vocabulary, tips for that specific activity, and ten lines of example dialogue. After our survival guide was complete, we wrote and extended skit. Each person had ten lines completely in spanish. Our skit was about the drug problem in Mexico, but we wanted to make it known that tourists don't often run into the drug cartel. In order to preform our skit, we used multiple props and hand motions to exaggerate our acting.
In this project I learned a lot about Mexico. I have visited Cozumel myself, but I only encountered the more touristy parts. I mostly focused on swimming with dolphins, Mexican food, and the snorkeling in Cozumel. For our extended skit, we based it off of the information that we already knew, so not all of the ideas were completely accurate. I was interested to know that people in Mexico tend to eat four meals a day.
The hardest part of this project was preforming the skit in spanish. I have never really had to speak in spanish to the public, so it was a new experience for me. What was nice about this project is that we got to pick what are scenarios were, and also what we wanted out dialogue to be about. This information will be helpful if I were to visit Mexico again.

El Periodismo
This project consisted of write an independent article and being able to interact and create a project with a group. When the project was first introduced, the main focus for me specifically was to write an article about the current events in Cuba. I chose to write about the duel currency system coming to an end. After completing the article, my group who all wrote about Cuba, came together to create a newspaper.
I really enjoyed learning about I country I did not have much knowledge about. Not only did I learn about the Cuban government, but I learned how the citizens are feeling about the big change that they are going through. I am most proud of the article that created. I have always found difficulty in writing spanish, so it was very rewarding to create an entire article.
I did not find much difficulty in this project. My group worked well together, and we all did our part to create a final piece. Some of the translations in my article I found to be difficult, but the critiques that I received were very helpful.
I learned I like to interact with others when I am learning. I understand concepts and become more interested when I can talk to others.
I have always wanted to travel abroad and I love to learn about other counties. This knowledge will be very helpful if I ever decide to travel to a spanish speaking countries. The more knowledge I have about countries other than my own, the more people I will be able to connect with.

Cuba, un país en el Caribe, con un sistema de doble moneda. El 15 de octubre, el gobierno cubano decidió poner fin al sistema de doble moneda. Cuba decidió que el sistema está dividiendo la gente ordinaria y los ricos. Si el gobierno cambia el sistema, la división de la riqueza va a disminuyó.
Después del colapso de la Unión Soviética, fue introducido al dólar de los Estados Unidos. En 2004, el dólar de los Estados Unidos fue sustituido por un peso convertible. Muchas personas se quejaron del sistema de doble moneda. Es un reto en su vida cotidiana. Philip Peters, el presidente del Centro de Investigación de Cuba dijo que el país tiene mucho que ganar con poner fin al sistema de doble moneda.

Dia de los Muertos
The purpose of this project was to learn about the Day of the Dead and how the holiday is celebrated. We focused mostly on the alter and artwork, as well as writing about a relative that has passed. We also focused on the difference between the preterite and imperfect verb conjugations.

Mi abuela se llamaba Mary Patzer. Mary nació en Oklahoma en 1941 y murió en Visalia, California en 1994. Ella murió de cáncer de pecho. Mi abuela Mary tenia los ojos azules y tenia el pelo rubia. Mary trabajó en un banco. Ella fue la directora de banco. Ella tenia dos niños. Scott era su hijo y Susan era su hija. Ella era una mama fabulosa. Mary vivió en Visalia, California. Mi abuela era muy amble y tenía un bueno sentido del humor. Todo el mundo amaban su. Mary era una cocinera excelente. Su comidas favoritas estaban carne, aguacate, y comida salada.

Day of the Dead Project Reflection
I learned a lot about the Day of the Dead. What I found most surprising is that the Spanish culture is not afraid to die or celebrate death. What I found most difficult about this project was the difference between the imperfect verbs and the preterite verbs in my writing. I tend to over think what I am writing about. I am proud of my project not due to the grade, but also how I was able to create a interesting piece of artwork and and advanced piece of writing that was completely in spanish. If I were to do this project again, I would spend more time putting more information into my writing.
