Today we only had one autopsy to complete. Due to what was observed at the scene the investigators thought that this individual may have overdosed. But, when a drug screen was completed during the autopsy, it was clean. While Dr. Suarez was observing the heart, he noticed a defect, which is a possible cause of death. The heart was also very large, compared to the average heart. When the skull was opened the doctor observed that the brain was also enlarged. Next I went with an investigator on four different calls. All of the individuals were released except for one that was suspected of a drug overdose. We picked this individual up at their house, and brought them back for an examination and toxicity screen. When we arrived at the scene, the family was still there. I am amazed at how well the investigators have been trained to speak with families. Although it is hard to watch a family go through a rough time, it is important to stay professional throughout the process. As for tomorrow, I am interested to see what kind of calls we will get.
